The Thomaston Fire Department is an all-volunteer department that has been providing fire protection and emergency response to the residents of Thomaston.  The Department was organized in 1881 and has continued to be 100% volunteer-operated.

The Department strives for excellence in an industry steeped in tradition and sacrifice.  Our members come from all walks of life and offer their services to the Town on their own time.  The members meet weekly, constantly training on new and old skills.

The Department sponsors a Cadet Corps for youth between the ages of 12 -18.  Cadets are trained in the various functions of firefighting duties which helps prepare them to join the Department once they reach the age of 18.  The Cadet Corps meets every Tuesday evening during the school year at the firehouse.  Applications can be picked up on Tuesday evenings or can be obtained through the guidance counselor at Thomaston High School.

The Department is also supported by a Ladies Auxiliary group that provides support for many department activities including major fire calls where refreshments are needed.
